Press statement 4 - 25 March 2012 - Total E&P UK Ltd

Aberdeen, 25 March – TOTAL E&P UK Limited confirms that an incident occurred at 12.15 hrs in the Elgin field which is located in the Central Graben Area, approximately 240km (149 miles) east of Aberdeen.
All 238 personnel have been accounted for and no injuries have been reported. As a precautionary measure, 150 non-essential personnel are being flown to Aberdeen. A further 69 non-essential crew remain offshore on neighbouring installations. Nineteen core crew remain onboard Elgin PUQ.
As per TOTAL E&P UK procedure, the Oil Pollution Emergency Plan (OPEP) has been activated and all relevant authorities have been notified. TOTAL E&P UK is maintaining a dialogue with the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC), and continuing to monitor the situation.
Investigations are continuing to determine the cause of the ongoing gas leak.
TOTAL E&P UK and Oil Spill Response (OSRL) are evaluating a reported sheen on the water in the vicinity of the installation.
Emergency procedures continue to focus on the welfare of all personnel involved and responding appropriately to the situation.
