TOTAL E&P UK Limited confirms that an incident occurred at 12.15 hrs on the Elgin field which is located in the Central Graben Area, 240km off Aberdeen.
Work is continuing to control a gas release which occurred earlier today at the wellhead platform on the Elgin field.
All personnel have been accounted for and no injuries have been reported. All non essential personnel on the Elgin PUQ and wellhead platform, along with all personnel on the Rowan Viking drilling rig have been evacuated. Following an earlier transfer to neighbouring installations, these personnel are now being transferred back to Aberdeen until the situation is resolved.
Emergency procedures are focusing on the welfare of all personnel involved and in resolving the current situation as quickly as possible.
