TOTAL E&P UK Limited confirms that an incident occurred at 12.15 hrs on Elgin PUQ which is located in the Central Graben Area, 240km of Aberdeen.
A well control problem occurred on the wellhead platform at the Elgin field, resulting in a gas release. Work is ongoing to control the release.
Following the incident, all personnel were called to muster and have been accounted for. No injuries have been reported. All personnel on the Rowan Viking drilling rig have been evacuated, and all non essential personnel from the Elgin PUQ and wellhead platform have been transferred to neighbouring installations. Arrangements are being made to transfer them back to Aberdeen until the situation is resolved.
Emergency procedures have been activated and Coastguards and Grampian police are informed.
