Surveillance aérienne

 

 

Total E&P UK a chargé Oil Spill Response Limited (OSRL) de procéder à un survol régulier de la zone où se situe la plate-forme Elgin. L'objectif est de contrôler régulièrement la présence et l'ampleur de la pollution maritime consécutive à la fuite de gaz et de condensats du 25 mars.

OSRL est un groupement d'organisations spécialisé dans la gestion des déversements et des fuites d'hydrocarbures. Les moyens déployés par OSRL en cas de déversement ou de fuite d'hydrocarbures sont très vastes (solutions techniques, personnel qualifié).

L’OSRL estime les quantités d’hydrocarbures présentes à la surface par la méthodologie donnée par l’Accord de Bonn. Elle consiste à noter l’aspect et l’étendue des surfaces affectées puis d’appliquer à chacune les volumes selon le tableau suivant :

 

Les aires en km2 données par OSRL correspondent à l’aire rectangulaire la plus large au sein de laquelle certaines parties sont irisées. OSRL donne ensuite la proportion de cette aire réellement couverte par des hydrocarbures. « Sheen area » correspond aux aires couvertes en catégorie 1 « Reflet (argenté/gris) ».

Pour effectuer la mission de surveillance demandée par Total E&P UK, OSRL a mobilisé un appareil Dornier 228. Le plan de vol est déterminé d'un commun accord entre Total E&P UK et OSRL, autour de la plate-forme Elgin, sur la base d'observations préalables, en fonction des conditions météorologiques et en mer.
