Elgin update 1 - Total E&P UK Ltd (English only)

Further to information already issued in the form of press releases, TOTAL E&P UK confirms that there has been little further development surrounding yesterday’s incident on its Elgin platform.
The gas leak at the Elgin Well Head Platform remains ongoing and we are taking all possible measures to try to identify the source and cause of the leak and to bring it under control. The situation is being monitored by standby vessels in the area.
Meanwhile, a sheen on the water has been confirmed in the vicinity of the platform and Oil Spill Response Limited (OSRL) have been alerted. OSRL are currently evaluating the situation and a surveillance aircraft has already flown over the area to make a preliminary assessment. At the same time, an aircraft carrying dispersant is on standby at East Midlands airport should it be required.
We are mobilising experts from elsewhere in the TOTAL Group to offer additional assistance and help us deal with the incident. At this stage, the precise cause of the leak remains unclear.
Although this is a serious situation, nobody has been injured and everyone is now transferred to a place of safety. There is no immediate risk to any personnel.
TOTAL is doing everything in its power to resolve this situation and to minimise the impact of this incident.
